Craig Bond - Candidate for Legislature, District 6
Meet Craig Bond, the Independent and Democratic Candidate for Legislature District 6.
Craig moved back to the area from Denver, five years ago, to raise his two teenage boys with his husband of 25 years David Trimble.
He is the youngest of 11 siblings and is related to every Bond within the county! He is a volunteer for the Hector Fair and sits on the Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.
He works at the Clemens Center full time and brings to the table vast experience with budget oversight, working knowledge of local government structure and operations, and an appreciation for tourism and grant funding. He tries to pay attention to global issues like the current war, increases to inflation and cost of living, and a watchful eye on current topics like Data Centers for AI businesses in neighboring Tompkins County.
He will be attending the October Fall Fundraiser and looks forward to hearing from the base directly at that event on October 16th.

Scott Burnside - Candidate for Legislature, District 5
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Scott Burnside and I am pleased and excited to formally announce my candidacy for Schuyler County District 5 Legislator. For the folks who are not familiar with who I am, I will begin this post by offering a brief personal history.
I have been a Schuyler County resident for over 30 years. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother all lived here and attended the same country church. My father served 2 terms on the Schuyler County Legislature, and was known for his kind, caring nature, sense of humor and excellent communication skills.
During my tenure as a resident, I have been employed with the Schuyler County Youth Bureau as a Youth Counselor and Youth Conservation Supervisor, the Corning Community YMCA, as both an instructor and Physical Director, the NYS Fire Academy, and most recently, the Watkins Glen State Park.
Work responsibilities related to these positions included staff supervision, purchasing, department budgeting, project management, and maintenance. For me, however, the most gratifying aspect of my career has been the opportunities to serve others. I have interacted with folks from all over the world, from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, and I have learned that most people respond favorably to kindness and respect.
Why am I running for this elected position? The answer is fairly simple, I am interested in collaborating with a very talented team of local government officials and local citizens, with the goal of promoting services and economic opportunities that would benefit our county and my district residents.
Listed below are some of the initiatives that I would endorse:
Bring new manufacturing businesses with year-round employment opportunities to our community.
Support our local established businesses through grants and special funds.
Increase affordable housing.
Endorse greater community involvement/input related to our local government.
Assist in the continuation of essential programs that enhance the lives of citizens in our community.
I have really enjoyed the process of getting the petitions signed and talking with so many of the residents of my district. As uncomfortable as it can be to knock on doors of people that I haven’t met yet, I love talking to people one on one, even about things we may disagree on. The most important thing is for us to truly listen to people to understand their struggles and perspectives.

John Hayes - Candidate for Town Justice, Town of Dix
John CT Hayes is a retired attorney who practiced law for over 25 years. He has practiced in local, state and federal courts, handling both criminal prosecution and defense cases. He has litigated both small and large civil cases. John has served as a hearing magistrate, and he is trained in mediation. He has served his community sitting on the Schuyler Hospital Board of Directors as well as the Community Services Board, and, during his time chairing that Board, Mill Creek Center Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Clinic was designed, funded and built. John was instrumental in formation of the Schuyler County Drug Treatment Court, and he sought and relied upon the work of probation departments when considering plea bargains. Defendants and victims can be assured that he will act in all cases with integrity and compassion. John was the victim of a serious violent crime, and he will work for justice for victims while affording due process to defendants. He is happy to offer his services to the Town of Dix.
